At Natural Way Chiropractic, we utilize a variety of techniques for treating pain and improving mobility. In many cases, we find it most effective to utilize multiple techniques as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that ensures the best possible outcome for the patient. Therapeutic ultrasound is often used in conjunction with other treatments on patients who have muscles that are wound too tightly around a joint to allow for effective manipulation. We may also use ultrasound on its own to treat certain conditions.
Ultrasound
What is Ultrasound Therapy?
During therapeutic ultrasound treatment, a heating effect is delivered to tissue deep below the surface of the skin. This heat causes increased blood circulation while relaxing the muscles, generally making it easier to manipulate the underlying joint effectively. Ultrasound therapy may also be used to help muscles, tendons or joints heal faster. This works in a few ways. First, the heat generated reduces inflammation. Second, ultrasound therapy causes the tissue to vibrate. This vibration stimulates cells, encouraging them to heal more quickly. In many ways, ultrasound therapy provides a sort of “micro-massage.”
Benefits of Ultrasound
Ultrasound is a term people are familiar with. Although, many do not know about the fantastic healing properties of ultrasound. Like a massage, it stimulates increased blood flow while reducing pain, inflammation, stiffness and spasms. This can be used in combination with other treatments depending on the patient's condition.
Is Ultrasound Painful?
Therapeutic ultrasound is not painful. In fact, most patients experience only a mild and pleasant warming sensation during treatment. It can be used on various parts of the body, including the back, knee, shoulder, ankle, elbow, etc. As with all our services, our doctors of chiropractic in Overland Park and Lenexa will determine the best treatment options for your condition.
