Pregnancy Related Pain
Pregnancy brings on many changes in the body that can create additional stress and discomfort to the musculoskeletal system.  We have all seen the image of a pregnant women holding her back as she gets out of a chair or as she is walking around the house.  Many people believe this is a "part of life" and can not be avoided.  This is entirely untrue.  Chiropractic provides conservative treatment options that are perfect for these areas that become painful or uncomfortable.  Learn more about how chiropractic at one of our two clinics in Overland Park and Lenexa can help alleviate pain and ensure a more comfortable pregnancy.
Common Symptoms & Conditions
  • Low Back Pain - One of the most common conditions our chiropractors see is low back pain, due to the center of gravity shift with the weight of the baby up front along with the Relaxin hormone changing the structures of the body.
  • Pelvic Pain - Sacroiliac joints, or SI joints, are commonly affected during pregnancy as well and typically present near the gluteal region or towards the hip.
  • Sciatica - Pregnancy induced nerve pain can occur when a nerve gets pinched either at the spinal column or through the gluteal musculature.
  • Pain Between The Shoulder Blades - This is typically due to postural changes during pregnancy and typically occur in the second to third trimester.

Webster's Technique
Prenatal chiropractic care utilizes a variety of different procedures, that may include Webster's Technique:
"The Webster Technique is a specific chiropractic sacral analysis and diversified adjustment. The goal of the adjustment is to reduce the effects of sacral subluxation/ SI joint dysfunction. In doing so, neuro-biomechanical function in the pelvis is facilitated." - International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA)
Is Chiropractic Safe For Pregnancy?
Pregnancy and chiropractic go hand in hand.  As with every patient that comes through our doors in Overland Park and Lenexa, we go through a thorough and comprehensive examination to make sure every treatment method that may be used is safe for the patient and baby.  We have a variety of different treatment options and always discuss specific concerns before starting any treatment with a chiropractic patient.
How Does Chiropractic Help?
Chiropractic provides conservative, non-invasive treatment to the underlying problem that is creating the pain.  Many solutions such as medications, heating pads, ice, or other OTC options look to reduce the symptoms.  While symptoms and pain are important, our job as chiropractors is to fix the underlying problem so that the pain goes away, stays away, and creates a healthier spine for the future.

Chiropractic treatments will help mobilize the spine and create flexibility in restricted areas, creating a more comfortable pregnancy along with research showing patients that received chiropractic care have reduced incidence of dystocia.
